    The National Institute of Design (NID) offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in design disciplines such as Industrial Design, Communication Design, Textile & Apparel Design, IT Integrated Design, and Interdisciplinary Design Studies. They also offer short-term programs, professional development programs, and continuing education programs.
  3. Whether the Institute is recognized by UGC/AICTE?
    NID is an autonomous institute and is not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). However, it is a prestigious and renowned institution in the field of design education in India.

    – B.Des.- 4 Year, M.Des.- 2 ½ Years, Ph.D. – Full Time (3 Years) & Part Time (5 Years)
  5. How can I apply for NID Entrance Examination?
    You can apply for NID Entrance Examination by visiting the official website of NID and following the online application process. The application forms are usually available in the month of October/November and the exam is conducted in January.

  6. What are the eligibility criteria for NID B.Des Entrance Examination?

    Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

    All candidates applying for the B.Des. must fulfill the eligibility criteria of both age and education qualification as under.

    Age Limit:

    For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply for admission.

    Educational Qualification:

    Applications for the academic year 2023-24 are open to candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2022-23 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or equivalent.

  7. What are the eligibility criteria for NID M.Des Entrance Examination?

    Eligibility Criteria for Master of Design (M.Des.)

    All candidates applying for the M.Des. program (any discipline) must fulfill eligibility criteria of both age and education qualification as under.

    Age Limit:

    For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1988 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1986 are eligible to apply for admission.

    For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission.

    Educational Qualification:

    In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admission:

    Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: Candidate must have passed the Bachelor’s Degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May 2023*.

    OR

    Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognized by law in India. Condition: Candidates must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of the document verification tentatively scheduled in May 2023*.

    OR

    Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard.

    Condition: Candidates must have passed the 3-year Bachelor’s degree examinations by August 2022.

  8. What is the exam pattern and syllabus for NID Entrance Examination?
    DAT Prelims + DAT Mains + Counselling
    The NID Entrance Examination consists of two parts – Part A and Part B. Part A is a written test that assesses the candidate’s aptitude, analytical skills, and creativity.
    Part B is a studio test that evaluates the candidate’s design skills and problem-solving ability. The exam may also include a personal interview round.

  9. Do I need the portfolio to apply?
    Yes for M.Des during Interviews (DAT Mains). A portfolio is an essential part of the admission process at NID. It showcases the candidate’s creative abilities, design skills, and previous work, and is evaluated during the Studio Test and Interview.
